Osmanthus comes from the small flowers of the evergreen *Osmanthus fragrans*, a member of the olive family and the tree known as kinmokusei in Japan. Natural perfumery material is produced mainly from flowers harvested in China, extracted with volatile solvent and then purified with alcohol to make an absolute.

Scent Profile

Tiny floral brightness carries unexpected shadows of ripe or dried apricot, tea, honey, green leaf, and soft suede. It is **a flower where fruit meets leather**, combining delicacy with dry depth and a skinlike warmth. The natural absolute is powerful, and the balance of sweetness, tartness, greenery, and leather can vary with origin and processing.

Use in Perfumery

Centered in the heart, osmanthus can connect floral, fruity, tea, leather, amber, and woody structures. Citrus lifts the fruit; rose and jasmine expand the floral volume; sandalwood and musk draw out the tactile softness. In leather accords it rounds sharp edges, while in fruit structures it supplies mature golden depth rather than confectionery sweetness.
