A Roman Story

A Black Moon frames a family journey through Rome, passing the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. Its sequence carries the composition from liquor and roasted coffee into a floral heart, before resins and woods take the lead.

Spirits, Roast, and Florals

Cuban rum and Armenian cognac meet Italian roasted coffee at the opening. Sicilian saffron adds a dry spice note, while Turkish rose brings a floral counterpoint. The heart turns to Roman night jasmine, Tiber oleander, and Himalayan osmanthus, with ambergris and Madagascan vanilla woven through the flowers. The transition softens the opening’s roasted and spirited character without losing its warmth. Across these stages, the floral center links the spiced, roasted opening with the darker woods and resins of the base.

Woods and Resins

Amazonian tonka bean and Ceylon coumarin bring rounded sweetness to the base, alongside musk and Marmaris styrax. Roman maritime pine, Janiculum cypress, laurel from the Fora, and Brazilian guaiac wood carry the composition toward an aromatic, woody finish. Tonka and coumarin keep sweetness in view as the woods deepen, connecting the earlier gourmand notes with the resinous finish. From liquor and coffee through flowers to resins and wood, the progression gives *Notte Romana* its layered soft oriental character.
