Suede is a soft leather note inspired by the velvety underside of leather. In perfume, it is gentler than dark leather, less smoky than birch-tar leather, and often built from musks, powdery materials, soft woods, and subtle smoky facets.

Scent Profile

The scent is smooth, musky, powdery, warm, and softly leathery. It can suggest gloves, the inside of a jacket, brushed fabric, or skin warmed under soft leather. Compared with leather, suede is more intimate and less formal; compared with musk, it has more texture and shadow.

Use in Perfumery

Perfumers use suede with rose, violet, iris, raspberry, saffron, musk, amber, woods, tea, and soft spices. It can make flowers feel more adult, give fruit a darker underside, or make a leather accord easier to wear. Suede is especially useful when sensuality needs softness rather than force.
