About This Fragrance
Taking the 2020 Eau de Parfum as the reference, Suede Orris translates the old Florentine subject of perfumed leather gloves into a light, contemporary wearing distance. It is not a historical reconstruction. Perfumer Jérôme di Marino's stated aim was to make a material often perceived as old-fashioned feel powdery yet modern, and Suede Orris is his debut fragrance for Molton Brown.
Scent Profile
Mandarin, black pepper and olibanum create a bright, lightly spicy opening. Tuscan orris, rose and jasmine bring rounded powder and soft floral light, while suede, benzoin and cistus labdanum build sweet resin and pliant leather beneath the official smoky-vanilla signature. The earlier 2019 Eau de Toilette is a separate, drier reading built on elemi, cedarwood and patchouli, not a diluted version of the EDP.
Who It's For
It suits someone who finds transparent iris too clean but dark, smoky leather too forceful. The EDP works especially well at close range on autumn and winter evenings, at dinners, the theatre or quiet occasions. In Japan the perfume itself has effectively left sale, leaving a body lotion as the current entry point, though a complete worldwide discontinuation has not been confirmed. Check the EDT or EDP concentration before buying and allow the powder and resin to develop on skin.
