History

Molton Brown began in 1971 as a hair salon at 58 South Molton Street in London. Its co-founders were Caroline Burstein and Michael Collis, who made hair-care products in the salon basement and built the business around individual service. The company expanded into bath, body and hotel amenities before joining the Kao Group in 2005. It received a Royal Warrant from Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 and is currently listed as a supplier of toiletries to King Charles III.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Because the company started in a salon rather than a perfume boutique, it treats scent as part of daily rituals: washing, grooming, layering and wearing. Early commitments included a stance against animal testing and a vegetarian café, both unusual at the time. Today its identity combines manufacturing in England, collaborations that give perfumers room to interpret a subject, and refillable formats within selected ranges. Well-known references include Black Pepper, Orange & Bergamot, Pink Pepper, and Coastal Cypress & Sea Fennel. Suede Orris connects the Florentine idea of perfumed leather gloves with a modern composition of bright resins, powdery orris and soft leather texture.
