About Wood

Wood is a foundational woody note that suggests trunks, branches, bark, shavings, timber, and dry grain. In perfume, it provides structure, calm, and persistence. It helps lighter flowers, fruits, and citrus notes settle into a more grounded composition.

Scent Profile

The scent is woody, dry, warm, textured, and sometimes smoky or resinous. Different woods create very different effects: cedar can feel pencil-sharp and dry, sandalwood creamy and milky, guaiac smoky and sweet, and pine fresh and resinous. Wood is therefore a family of textures rather than one smell.

Use in Perfumery

Perfumers use wood in floral, citrus, amber, leather, musk, spice, gourmand, and aromatic compositions. It gives a perfume a skeleton, dries out sweetness, and makes the finish last longer. In small amounts, wood adds clarity; in larger amounts, it becomes the main character. It can also make very soft notes feel more defined.

Woody materials often act like architecture. They create vertical and horizontal lines in a formula: lift, depth, dryness, and support. That is why a fragrance can feel more complete when a woody base is present.
