Angelic
A herbal rose drawn from a garden-and-serpent story: apple and sage, Damask rose and papyrus, sinking into dry woods and musk.
Perfumer: Christian Provenzano
Angelic begins with a question: is anyone or anything truly angelic? The brand suggests the word implies purity while hiding something more intriguing, and builds the fragrance around both goodness and temptation, told through a holy garden, an apple tree and a serpent that interrupts the scene.
The scent opens with crisp apple, musky clary sage and the green spice of cardamom. The brand likens this start to the fizziness of a very dry cider.
Damask rose sits at the centre with woody notes, violet and papyrus. Papyrus adds a dry wood character. The description says this papyrus gives the rose a delicate fungal dryness and a hint of rye.
Later, cedarwood, patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, amber and musk spread through the composition, and the rose takes on a petrolic sharpness and musky roundness. It is a rose in which dry herbs and woods outweigh sweetness, leaving the garden mood suspended in a soft haze.
