About Le Couvent

Le Couvent is a French fragrance house inspired by the botanical heritage of the Couvent des Minimes in southern France. Plants, remembered landscapes and journeys provide its subjects, while its perfumes are created and made in France. The house approaches fragrance as a way of evoking places and giving familiar materials a distinct expression.

History

The name refers to the Minimes convent founded in 1614, where the royal botanist Louis Feuillée once lived. His travels in search of plants form part of the imaginative background of the house. The date belongs to the historic convent, rather than to the modern perfume business. In 2019, Jean-Claude Ellena became Director of Olfactory Creation, bringing his approach to materials and composition to a team of collaborating perfumers.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Le Couvent values the character of individual materials and the clarity that can emerge from a restrained composition. Its collections offer different perspectives: Remarquables evokes journeys and destinations; Singulières draws on an illustrated animal world; Botaniques recalls walks through gardens; and Signatures places particular fragrant materials at the centre. Ellena’s creative direction sits alongside works he composes himself, while other perfumers contribute their own interpretations. This balance of shared direction and individual authorship is part of the house’s identity.

Iconic Fragrances

Tinharé pairs mandarin with a vanilla-wood character in a fragrance inspired by an island journey. Mimosa looks towards the yellow flowers of Provence, setting their powdery softness against cedarwood. Ambra explores a warmer register through immortelle and labdanum, with the sweetness and resinous depth associated with an amber accord.
