About Floris
Floris is a family perfume house founded in London's St James's in 1730 by Juan Famenias Floris and his wife Elizabeth. The original shop at 89 Jermyn Street remains the centre of the business and of its creative work, with the founders' descendants continuing to run the company.
History
Alongside perfume, the early shop sold combs and shaving products, receiving its first Royal Warrant in 1820 as a comb maker to King George IV. A factory opened in Devon in 1989, expanding production while the London premises retained their role as the home of fragrance creation.
Philosophy & Signature Style
Handwritten formulas preserved in leather-bound ledgers provide a working archive rather than simply a record of the past. Ninth-generation perfumery director Edward Bodenham and the in-house team combine inherited methods and glassware with natural ingredients and contemporary fragrance materials. Bespoke appointments also bring individual tastes into the creative process, giving the perfumers a continuing conversation with the people who wear their work.
Iconic Fragrances
No.89, introduced in 1951 and named after the shop's address, is a citrus-woody composition associated with the writer Ian Fleming; White Rose reaches back to the early nineteenth century. Cefiro takes a different route, imagining a breeze in a Mediterranean courtyard, and illustrates how travel and family memory continue to shape the house's repertoire.
