About KOHSHI

KOHSHI is a Japanese fragrance house led by perfumer Hidenori Matsuno. It belongs to Kohshi Co., based in Hadano, Kanagawa, where fragrance development and perfume production take place at the company’s own facilities. The range moves from familiar citrus and floral compositions to less conventional impressions of smoke, resins, earth and food, reflecting a broad interest in what perfume can express.

History

Matsuno established his company in 2010 after working in fragrance sales and cosmetics. The KOHSHI and L’Héritage collections preceded the opening of the pallumer flagship shop in Daikanyama in 2021, when the kilesa collection also began its public life. A Kyoto shop followed in 2025. These shops provide a place to explore a large and varied collection rather than encountering the house through a single signature fragrance.

Philosophy and Signature Style

Research into Japanese fragrance preferences sits beside a commitment to independent, adventurous composition. Matsuno avoids fixing every fragrance around one preferred material or a recurring signature accord, allowing each subject to lead its own formula. The house’s development and manufacturing facilities support that freedom. Within the range, kilesa translates landscapes, behaviour and emotion into perfume, while L’Héritage connects fragrance with the character and sound of Japanese instruments.

Iconic Fragrances

  • *Sakura* — A fragrance inspired by a warm spring walk beneath cherry trees.
  • *Sho* — Citrus and jasmine suggest the clear, solemn atmosphere surrounding the Japanese mouth organ.
  • *A Cigar Stub* — Tobacco, spices, leather and woods explore the smoky side of the kilesa collection.
