About Matière Première

Matière Première begins not by decorating a story but by selecting one natural material and presenting its texture, radiance, and roughness directly at high dosage. The name joins the ideas of “raw material” and “first,” placing the ingredient as both point of departure and principal subject.

History

Born into a perfumery family, Aurélien Guichard established an Ecocert-certified organic farm in his native Grasse in 2016, cultivating rose, tuberose, and lavender. The fields developed into the idea for a house where the perfumer could supervise how important materials were grown as well as how they were composed. Matière Première launched in 2019 and now brings its own harvests and selected ingredients from other origins into one transparent creative method.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Each composition places a central material in what the house calls an overdose. Supporting ingredients do not hide it; they expose brightness, depth, texture, or persistence. Origin, grower, cultivation, and extraction are understood as parts of olfactory character, narrowing the gap between explanation and formula. Directness is not the same as simplicity. The craft lies in editing several facets of one ingredient into a structure that can be read clearly on skin without filtering away its natural force.
