History
According to the house's own historical account, the story begins in 1792, when merchant Wilhelm Mülhens received a formula for an aqua mirabilis as a wedding gift. The aromatic water was initially presented for internal and external use. When an 1810 decree required medicinal recipes to be disclosed, Mülhens repositioned it as an externally applied fragrance rather than surrender the formula. The business passed through several owners, and the heritage is now maintained by German family company Mäurer & Wirtz.
