Ex Nihilo is a French fragrance house founded in Paris in 2013 by Sylvie Loday, Olivier Royère and Benoît Verdier. The three founders bring together an interest in traditional perfumery, contemporary artistic expression and technical innovation, giving the house a collaborative identity.
History
The Latin name refers to creation from nothing, expressing the founders' ambition to build the perfume house they wanted from the ground up. Their first store opened on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris in late 2013. Architecture, design and emerging technologies have remained part of the creative world around the fragrances, alongside the craft of perfumery itself.
Philosophy and Signature Style
The house gives perfumers creative freedom and brings natural materials into dialogue with contemporary fragrance ingredients and technical methods. At selected flagship locations, its Osmologue offers high-precision weighing and blending to personalise selected existing perfumes with additional materials. This approach connects technology with a personal experience of choosing and adapting a fragrance, while keeping collaboration between the founders and different creative talents at the centre of the house.
Notable Fragrances
Blue Talisman, composed by Jordi Fernández, combines pear and orange blossom with modern woody ingredients and musk. Fleur Narcotique is another signature creation associated with the house's wider recognition, illustrating the range of identities that emerge through its collaborations with perfumers.
