About Dominique Ropion

Dominique Ropion is an IFF master perfumer whose structural precision and daring contrasts have shaped modern fragrance. Powerful materials are not subdued; their outlines remain vivid while the composition holds them in equilibrium.

Career

Ropion studied physics and became fascinated by perfumery during summer work in a fragrance laboratory. An internship led to perfumery school, followed by eighteen years in the industry before he joined IFF in 2000. In 2018 he became the second creator to receive the company's master perfumer title.

Creative Style & Philosophy

Deep knowledge of fragrance history, curiosity about material limits, and uncompromising craft form his foundation. Density and transparency, cold and heat, flowers and woods coexist with architectural tension instead of dissolving into compromise. Teaching the next generation also matters to him, treating technique as a culture to be passed on rather than a private legend.

Signature Works

  • *Portrait of a Lady* — Rose and patchouli held in extraordinary density and balance.
  • *Carnal Flower* — The green and milky dimensions of tuberose pushed into vivid contrast.
