About Valentino

Valentino is a couture house founded in Rome in 1960 by Valentino Garavani. It is known for romantic dressing, bold colour and fine craftsmanship, and it built an international following from its Roman base. Its fragrances and makeup are now made under license by L'Oréal and sold as Valentino Beauty.

History

Its fragrances are older than the current license: in 1991, under the founder's direction, Valentino released Vendetta.

In May 2018, L'Oréal and Valentino announced a long-term worldwide license for fine fragrance and luxury beauty. The agreement took effect in 2019, and L'Oréal has developed and distributed the fragrances ever since.

Born in Roma arrived in 2019, the year the license took effect. In 2024 came Anatomy of Dreams, a couture fragrance collection that opened with seven scents. In 2026 the Vendetta name returned as a new pair of fragrances.

Approach

Valentino's perfumes start from Rome and from couture. Born in Roma takes the city and the house's origins as its theme. Anatomy of Dreams imagines a Roman palazzo in which each door opens onto a different Italian memory.

The Rockstud motif and colours such as pink and Valentino red belong to the bottle design.

Signature fragrances

• *Born in Roma (2019–)* launched as a Donna and Uomo pair, in glass bottles moulded with studs. Donna is a warm floral built on jasmine and vanilla. Uomo is a woody scent that pairs mineral salt and ginger with vetiver. Many flankers followed, including Uomo Intense in 2023.
• *Voce Viva (2020)* a floral centred on orange blossom and vanilla.
• *Anatomy of Dreams (2024–)* a couture collection that began with seven fragrances, each built around its own memory or emotion.
• *Vendetta (2026)* a new pair that takes its name from the 1991 fragrance; the scents themselves are new compositions. Donna, by Dominique Ropion and Andrew Everett, sets tuberose against a red orange nectar accord inspired by Tarocco oranges, over sandalwood. Uomo, by Marie Salamagne, is built on Peruvian ginger, Italian citrus, a cinnamon liqueur accord and patchouli.
