Notte d’Oro
Oud and a liqueur-like almond accord frame a path from orange and black cherry through jasmine and rose to patchouli.
Perfumer: Paul Guerlain
Notte d'Oro is Italian for "golden night." The setting is a banquet room in a palazzo: oud stands in for ornate wall panelling and parquet floors, and an almond accord, described as liqueur-like, adds a gilded sweetness.
Sweet orange and grapefruit oils open with a black cherry accord, so sweet and bitter citrus arrive together with a darker fruit. Indian jasmine absolute, geranium oil and rose oil then thicken the floral middle.
Patchouli oil, sandalwood heart and oud oil close it, trading the bright fruit for earthy depth and dry wood. The almond accord is named as a key note but does not appear in the tiered list. The official family is woody, ambery and fruity.
