About Paul Guerlain
Paul Guerlain comes from a historic perfuming family but has built his practice through chosen training and work within a contemporary fragrance company. A formula begins as a dialogue in which materials meet, attract, oppose, and reveal concealed aspects of one another.
Career
A visit to an ylang-ylang plantation on Mayotte at five became his first powerful scent memory; around fifteen he spent hours smelling materials in his grandfather's small home laboratory. After completing his studies, he joined IFF and trained in New York and Paris under Anne Flipo. He now creates for international brands as an IFF perfumer.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Vetiver, mint, basil, and cypress carry personal memories, but they are not displayed alone; relationships with contrasting textures reveal their form. Constraints such as natural-content targets or technical limits become engines for finding another answer rather than walls around expression. Inherited vocabulary is not simply reenacted but repositioned for a contemporary bodily experience.
