About Théobroma

Théobroma is a chocolatier founded in 1999 in Tomigaya, Shibuya, Tokyo. Starting as a specialty chocolate shop, it has expanded into original fragrances that capture the allure of cacao.

History

Founder Koji Tsuchiya opened Théobroma as one of the few handmade chocolate specialty stores at the time. Since then, the brand has grown to include a gelateria and a cacao store, all centered around the world of cacao. Its Tomigaya shop combines a retail space for chocolate and baked goods with a café, keeping the experience of tasting at the heart of the business.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Théobroma explores the rich flavors and aromas of cacao, extending its expertise from chocolate to perfume. Under the concept of "wearable chocolate," the brand collaborated with perfumer Mayumi Nakada to create gourmand fragrances that blend chocolate notes with other accords.

Iconic Fragrances (or Did You Know?)

Signature scents include "Chocolat Orange," which harmonizes orange and chocolate, and "Tisane," inspired by herbal tea. The original five fragrances share a chocolate musk accord. Rose Miel brings rose and honey into that chocolate theme, while Madagascar turns toward a floral bouquet. These contrasting directions show how the same starting point can produce much more than a single, uniformly sweet scent.
