About 27 87
27 87 is an independent niche fragrance house founded in Barcelona, Spain, in 2016 by Romy Kowalewski. The name comes from numbers in the founder's date of birth, and the same figures set the two bottle sizes, 27 ml and 87 ml.
History
Kowalewski grew up in a family of bakers, where new products were tasted without anyone being told the ingredients, an early lesson in noticing small differences in aroma and flavour. At 26 she went to Paris to look for investors and spent two years pitching an idea that could not yet be seen, touched, or smelled, while working a marketing job to help fund the project. Once backing was in place, design and production began, and the brand launched in 2016.
Philosophy & Signature Style
The house frames perfume as an experience of the present moment and treats Barcelona as part of how it works rather than as a backdrop. Its fragrances are developed with perfumers, artists, and creatives around the world and organised into four lines, each reflecting a different state of mind. They come in opaque bottles that protect the scent, with boxes designed by artists. The brand does not assign gender or age to its scents, holding that notes are always unisex, and it releases new work when it is ready rather than on a fixed calendar.
Iconic Fragrances
For its tenth anniversary, the house opened its archive with The Archive Edition, seven previously unreleased scents created between 2017 and 2025, including Flor de Tiaré, Genetic Drift, Durian, and Waldmeister. Each label shows the year the fragrance was made.
