About Jean-Christophe Hérault
Jean-Christophe Hérault grew up near the fragrance industry but first entered its material reality through chemistry and quality control. The French perfumer gathers references from different cultures and periods, rebuilding them as forceful contrasts in which neither side disappears.
Career
Raised near Grasse, Hérault had an early view of the industry through his father's work producing fragrance concentrates. After studying chemistry, he joined the quality-control department at Fragrance Resources, learning the identity, variation, and standards of materials through daily practice. He moved into perfumery within the company and trained under Pierre Bourdon. Continuing in Paris after the business joined IFF, he was promoted to IFF Vice President Perfumer in 2024.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Forms gathered from travel, art, music, and architecture become collisions such as smoke with fruit, leather with flowers, or cold minerals with warm woods. Precision learned in quality control provides a foundation without closing the composition around correctness alone. A strong opening gesture can give way to softer layers over time, preserving both narrative momentum and room for the wearer.
