About Gérald Ghislain
Born in Morocco and raised in the south of France, Gérald Ghislain is the founder of the niche house Histoires de Parfums. His background as a chef shaped the way he blends and elevates raw materials in perfumery.
Career
He began his career in gastronomy and opened his first restaurant at twenty-two. By the end of the 1990s, he was running two Parisian establishments. He then turned to a long-held dream and founded Histoires de Parfums in 2000, where he remains creative director.
Creative Style & Philosophy
“My perfumes have never been about a quest for the most beautiful scent, but always for the most beautiful emotion,” he says. He draws on historical figures, mythical years, poems, and music, treating fragrance as a story to be read on the skin. For him, gastronomy and perfumery both elevate nature, and sensuality and sharing sit at the heart of creation.
Signature Works
- *1969 Parfum de Révolte* — peach and rose layered with coffee and patchouli, evoking the spirit of a free era
- *Ambre 114* — a warm, spicy amber with a rounded, resinous character
His role also encompasses the creative direction of the house, shaping the stories and working with the perfumers involved in individual compositions.
