About Aistis Mickevičius
Aistis Mickevičius is a Lithuanian perfumer and the founder of FUMparFUM in Vilnius. His background as an actor, artist and radio DJ informs a practice in which perfume can become an invisible painting or a gallery object translated into something a person can wear.
Career
He established FUMparFUM in 2011 and developed both bottled fragrances and scent installations for objects and exhibitions. His Lithuanian book about perfume appeared in 2016 and was reissued in 2021, while the Per Fumum olfactory and visual art gallery opened in Vilnius at the end of 2023. Writing and photography sit alongside his perfume work, extending a creative career that began in performance into other forms of expression.
Creative Style & Philosophy
His process starts with an idea, sometimes considered for months through images, texts, music, film scenes and memories before a clear direction reaches the laboratory. He views formulation as the culmination of that preparation rather than the beginning of a search. Theatre and perfume share an ephemeral quality for him: both affect emotion and then disappear, leaving room for a different experience on the next encounter.
Signature Works
- *L’Artiste* — created after studies in Paris, drawing on La Bohème and the image of artists telling stories through their bodies and voices.
- *Drama Queen* — inspired by neorealist cinema and Anna Magnani’s dramatic presence on screen and in life.
