The scent is warm, woody, boozy, sweet, smoky, and slightly fruity. It can suggest oak casks, malt, peat smoke, caramelized sugar, vanilla, dried fruit, or polished wood. Compared with rum, whisky is often drier and more woody. Compared with cognac, it may feel smokier and more grain-like.

Use in Perfumery

Perfumers use whisky in amber, woody, leather, tobacco, vanilla, caramel, coffee, spice, and dark gourmand compositions. It can make sweetness feel adult, give woods a rounded liquor glow, or add warmth to smoky accords. With leather it becomes rugged; with vanilla it becomes smoother and more indulgent.
