The effect is not a simple fresh daffodil impression; it has a dense, almost leathery depth that makes floral structures feel more complex.

Use in Perfumery

Perfumers use narcissus in floral, green, chypre, leather, and woody compositions, usually from the heart into the drydown. It can darken a white-floral bouquet, add pollen-like warmth to green florals, or bring a slightly untamed quality to elegant mossy structures. Because narcissus absolute is tenacious and expressive, restrained dosage is often enough to change the emotional weight of a blend.

Natural narcissus absolute is traditionally obtained from fresh flowers by solvent extraction, which helps explain its rarity and cost. In modern formulas, accord-building can also suggest its character when natural absolute is impractical or too dominant. In perfume language, narcissus often sits between innocence and danger: springlike petals on the surface, with honey, hay, tobacco, and animalic warmth underneath.
