Freakincense explores the boundary between the sacred and the profane. Gentle smoke and a hymn sung in secret languages provide its imagery, while Luca Maffei brings citrus, spice and incense together. The smoke has a solemn character, but brightness and softness also have a place in the composition.
Lime opens with tartness and pink pepper with a quick spark. Violet adds a powdered sweetness before the centre turns to ecclesiastical incense, accompanied by elemi and cashmeran. The lightness of citrus and flower provides an entry into a drier world of smoke and resins.
The base combines damp, woody vetiver with deep patchouli and warm labdanum. Earthy woods and resinous sweetness support the finish, giving the smoke a setting beyond its sharp, dry edge. The result offers the quiet character of incense alongside the brightness of lime and the lively touch of spice.
