About Pierre Negrin
Pierre Negrin is a French perfumer who lets the roughness, earth, and light of a material breathe instead of displaying it merely as a symbol of luxury. Early encounters with raw materials in Grasse and the differing atmospheres of Mexico and the United States enter narratives built in substantial layers.
Career
Both grandfathers traded plants and materials for fragrance, and as a child he visited workplaces filled with baskets of jasmine and bags of roses. He learned perfumery through practical laboratory apprenticeship rather than a specialist school, leaving France for Mexico in the early 1990s and later moving to the United States. More than twenty years at Quest and Givaudan preceded his 2008 arrival at Firmenich's New York fine-fragrance center.
Creative Style & Philosophy
For Negrin, luxury means authenticity as well as rarity. Fine woods, resins, and earth-like materials are not suffocated by decoration but used at a level that preserves their rough surface and temperature. Even in large layered structures, individual materials retain breath and reveal different facets over time.
