MCM was founded in Munich, Germany, in 1976. Known for travel leather goods and bags, it also brings its backpack designs into fragrance bottles. Today, the name stands for Modern Creation München.
History
Founder Michael Cromer began with bags and trunks for travellers. The Visetos monogram and studded Stark backpack became recognizable signatures. In 2019, MCM signed a licensing agreement with Interparfums, followed by a new fragrance line from 2021. That partnership added a further chapter to the house's fragrance history.
Philosophy & Signature Style
German craftsmanship meets an interest in music, art, travel and new technology. MCM values functionality while encouraging self-expression beyond fixed rules. Its fragrances share that feeling of people moving freely through the world. Turning a bag or an animal character into a small bottle adds a playful physical expression to the same idea, connecting the scents to recognizable objects from the fashion house.
Iconic Fragrances
The 2021 MCM fragrance pairs raspberry and jasmine with clear woods. Ultra contrasts white flowers with tonka bean and moss. In 2025, several perfumers created six fragrances inspired by the house's leather animal characters, each with a sculptural cap. Cozy Cat, exploring feline duality, and the celestially inspired Cosmic Star expanded the range in 2026. Together they show different ways of translating the brand's travelling spirit and playful designs into scent.
