About KITOWA

KITOWA is a Japanese fragrance house built around natural oils from trees associated with Japanese life and architecture. Its perfumes and home fragrances place the character of wood in conversation with flowers, resins and spices. Freshness, depth and the atmosphere surrounding a tree matter as much as identifying its species.

History

The brand began in 2018 with home fragrance, drawing on the long incense tradition connected with Nippon Kodo. It brought its approach to personal fragrance with an eau de parfum collection in 2019. In 2022, an alcohol-free, water-based parfum range extended that work into another formulation. These changes concern both the fragrance itself and the medium through which it meets skin and daily life.

Philosophy and Signature Style

KITOWA names the origins of important materials, including hinoki from Mie, hiba from Aomori and camphor tree oil from Yakushima. Rather than presenting these woods in isolation, it combines them with other perfume materials to suggest forest air, pale timber or a sheltered interior. Its symmetrical logo brings together the Japanese character for wood and the letter K, referring to the geometry of Japanese timber construction. Simple packaging gives that structure room to be seen.

Iconic Fragrances

  • *Hinoki Eau de Parfum* — Fresh Japanese wood joined by iris, frankincense and sandalwood.
  • *Hiba Eau de Parfum* — Coniferous clarity set against the warmth of tonka bean and amber.
  • *Eau Éclosion Moss Temple* — Woods and moss suggest the quiet, damp atmosphere of a temple garden in a water-based parfum.
