About Astier de Villatte

Astier de Villatte is a Parisian house founded in 1996. Its work spans handmade ceramics, letterpress printing, books and fragrance, bringing older techniques and remembered places into contemporary life.

History

The ceramics workshop follows the tradition of eighteenth-century Parisian manufactures, shaping clay by pressing it into moulds. The house also operates a printing workshop in the Paris suburbs and publishes books, including the city guide Ma Vie à Paris and Drawings by Lou Doillon. Perfume belongs to this wider interest in making objects and experiences with a strong connection to place and craft.

Philosophy & Signature Style

Its fragrances take their subjects from cities, gardens and historical recipes. Perfumers interpret those starting points with contemporary materials and composition, keeping the story connected to the smell. The colognes include work by Françoise Caron and the Takasago perfume team; Dominique Ropion has reinterpreted scents drawn from older formulas. These collaborations allow distinct creative voices to sit within the same house.

Signature Fragrances

Ambre Liquide revisits a recipe dated 1348 through Ropion's combination of resins and spices. Grand Chalet recalls the linden trees around the home of the painter Balthus. In Tanger, Sylvie Fischer turns a Moroccan garden into a composition of neroli, citrus and maté. Together, these fragrances show the range between a closely observed landscape and a scent imagined through historical research.
