About Akro
Akro is a London fragrance house built around the things people find hard to resist: coffee, tobacco, chocolate, nightlife, and other everyday compulsions. Its subjects are provocative, but the perfumes are constructed with enough clarity that the central craving is immediately legible.
History
The idea began while founder Anaïs Cresp was living around Ladbroke Grove in west London. Coffee shops, charcoal grills, old pubs scented with whisky and leather, and the haze of the street suggested a collection based on lived appetites rather than conventional floral themes. She developed Akro with her father, master perfumer Olivier Cresp, and Jack Miskelly; the company launched in 2018 with six fragrances. The house remains a family project, joining Anaïs’s visual and cultural direction with Olivier’s experience as a formula creator.
Philosophy & Signature Style
Akro treats addiction as an observation of ordinary pleasure, not as a distant dramatic concept. Olivier Cresp has described his approach as figurative and minimalist, using a limited palette to make the subject recognizable while keeping the result wearable. That discipline matters: coffee can retain roasted bitterness, smoke can feel dry rather than merely sweet, and a dessert accord can suggest texture without becoming a novelty prop. London supplies the restless attitude; the Cresp family’s Grasse background supplies the technical control.
Iconic Fragrances
Awake captures the heat and spice of strong coffee, Smoke follows the ritual of tobacco, and Dark explores the pull between chocolate’s sweetness and bitterness. Later scents widened the vocabulary: Ink looks at tattoo culture, while Bake turns a lemon pastry into a bright gourmand. Each is titled like a direct command or sensation, matching the collection’s refusal to disguise its subject.
