Still Life In Rio
Dora Baghriche's eau de parfum draws on the world of Brazilian photographer Flávio Veloso, catching Rio as it wakes with glinting citrus and peppery heat.
Perfumer: Dora Baghriche
The photographs are by Flávio Veloso. Under the title "Still Life" in Rio, or the Peaceful Life, Dora Baghriche set out to capture the ever-renewing impetus of Rio as it wakes: an expanding perfume that promises a day full of light and motion.
It is a sunny scent, yet its light is closer to starlight, the primeval flicker, than to the sun. Yuzu, ginger and mint give a cool, sour glitter, and then heat rises from the peppers, Jamaican hot peppers among them. A coconut water accord softens that spice with something watery.
Toward the end, rum and Brazilian copaiba wood bring roundness, crossed by the dry shade of leathery notes. The bright citrus and flowers settle into a quieter woody, leathery finish.
