Oud Maracujá

An extrait born from the image of tasting passion fruit deep in an oud forest. Thirst-quenching fruit meets the tropical warmth of oud, while rose, saffron, vanilla and cistus carry the contrast into an amber sweetness.

Inspiration

Maison Crivelli builds its fragrances from sensations its founder, Thibaud Crivelli, encountered while travelling. Oud Maracujá starts from the moment he came across oud in an unexpected way, in huts on stilts within a secluded oud forest. Maracujá is the Portuguese word for passion fruit. Its originality lies in a pairing that had not been smelled before: a deep oud accord set against the luminous, juicy side of passion fruit.

Scent Development and Character

The first spray brings a bright, tangy burst of passion fruit accord. At its core, Turkish rose absolute meets the sensual spice of saffron with a honeyed, fruity fullness. The oud accord, leather accord and patchouli then settle beneath the fruit, adding dry wood and the shadow of leather. In the base, vanilla and Spanish cistus wrap everything in an amber sweetness and give depth to the woody warmth of the oud accord. Benzoin keeps the drydown soft and resinous. A touch of akigalawood is there to extend the sillage and longevity. The rose, the benzoin from Laos, the cistus and the Indonesian patchouli carry ORPUR, the label Givaudan gives to its finest natural perfumery materials.

Who It Is For and When to Wear It

Our editorial view is that the dense mix of oud, leather and resins sits best in autumn and winter, or on cool evenings in spring and early summer. The fruit makes it an approachable oud for people new to the genre. It is an extrait de parfum at 32% concentration, and a vegan formula. Sillage is strong, clearly noticeable to others for the first few hours, before it settles closer to the skin as sweet wood and leather. Longevity is long, and many wear reports describe it lasting more than eight hours. One or two sprays are easier to manage during the day or in the office.
