Vetiver Cuir is Luca Maffei's ode to the modern gentleman. Jul et Mad presents it as a revisiting of vetiver, a material long bound up with the image of traditional masculine elegance and refinement, brought back to life in a contemporary register. The aim is a mysterious charm in which a subtle yet vigorous side sits alongside grace and sensitivity.
From a fresh opening, the composition moves into a velvety, leathery, faintly narcotic heart. The resinous pull of labdanum and the shade of patchouli shape that leather impression, while tonka beans add a soft sweetness.
Vetiver finally opens out, surrounded by precious woods such as guaiac wood and cedar. The close keeps a classical poise, carrying its weight quietly rather than through display.
