About Jul et Mad
Jul et Mad is a Paris haute-parfumerie house created by Julien and Madalina, a couple who first met by chance on the terrace of a Parisian café.
History
Madalina grew up in Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, studied cosmetics and fragrance marketing at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and held senior roles in the beauty industry. In 2011 she decided to found her own house. Julien studied neuroscience and earned a Ph.D. in biology, then left research to start communication companies. Today she leads the creative and conceptual side, while he oversees the commercial and operational work.
Philosophy & Signature Style
The two founders imagine every creation, then develop it with the perfumer in close, “four-hand” collaboration, and the perfumer is free to use rare materials without cost barriers. The catalogue is organised by inspiration: Les Classiques tells the couple’s love story chapter by chapter, Les “White” draws on their love of music, painting, history and philosophy, and Les Essentiels highlights a single note or accord. The presentation is just as deliberate, with hand-assembled coffrets in lacquered wood or hand-stitched leather.
Iconic Fragrances (or Did You Know?)
Terrasse à St-Germain was a finalist in the Indie category of the Fragrance Foundation’s FiFi Awards. NÉA, composed by Luca Maffei, won in the Independent category at the 2016 Art and Olfaction Awards.
