Charred Wood
Roasted chestnut, salty seaweed and fermented tea lead toward resin and ember-like woods.
Perfumer: Christian Provenzano
Charred Wood takes food transformed by fire, smoke and time as its subject. Crushed pepper, roasted chestnut, salt and crisp seaweed introduce the atmosphere of a table meeting heat. Christian Provenzano created this smoky woody composition for The Table Collection.
Dry black pepper meets the gentle nuttiness of roasted chestnut and a smoked-sea-salt impression. Fermented tea brings an earthier depth, with Korean seaweed-crisp associations adding roasted salinity. Incense resin, myrrh and clove leaf give the centre a warmer resinous and spicy texture within the smoke.
Charcoal, hinoki and ambery wood shape the later phase. Patchouli and vetiver add soil-like and root-like depth beneath them. The aromatic image is of heat remaining after the flame has disappeared: a quieter woody warmth extending the scene rather than a depiction of an actively burning fire.
