HOLY STICK
Palo Santo rituals inspire a meeting of spice, incense, woods and warm resins.
Perfumer: Anaïs Biguine
Holy Stick takes inspiration from rituals in which Palo Santo is burned as a means of communicating with nature and the gods. The sacred wood used in Latin America becomes the starting point for an olfactory image of connection with the natural world.
Elemi, cardamom and clove make up the top. A brighter resinous impression meets fresher spice and a warmer, sharper character. Although Palo Santo provides the theme, the composition begins with the different textures of these spices and resin.
Petitgrain, incense and cedar form the heart. Green leafy impressions meet incense smoke and drier wood, moving the fragrance away from its spiced opening toward the wood and incense at its centre. The contrast between green notes and smoke develops the ritual setting in another direction.
Patchouli, amber, benzoin and Palo Santo form the base. Earthier patchouli meets amber's warmth and the sweeter resinous character of benzoin around the wood. Presented as an eau de parfum, the fragrance develops its inspiration through a succession of spice, smoke, wood and resin, giving each of these textures a place within the composition.
