Cuir Végétal
A roasted woody built from a coffee-growing encounter in Brazil, laid over Javanese vetiver.
Perfumer: Serge de Oliveira
Cuir Végétal began with a trip to Brazil and a meeting with coffee growers. The perfumer remembers the bean as an experience for every sense: subtle to the touch, suave and gourmand to the nose, bitter and addictive on the tongue. Vetiver from the island of Java was then woven into that memory.
Lavender and bergamot open beside chocolate and a CO2-extracted coffee absolute. The sweetness stays dry and roasted rather than dessert-like, closer to the surface of a freshly roasted bean than to a sugared cup.
Atlas cedar, cashmere wood and papyrus form a dry woody middle that absorbs the coffee's bitterness. The name means “vegetable leather,” and the base bears it out: vetiver, moss and amber surround the leather, so it reads as roots and soft hide rather than a polished, standalone leather note.
