Philippe Paparella-Paris is a master perfumer from southern France. Scientific precision meets sensory experience gathered across Asia, the Middle East, and South America, enabling him to give opulent materials a sense of scale, air, and movement.
Career
After studying science in Montpellier, he specialized in perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles and entered Mane’s perfumer training programme. His career then moved through Jakarta in 2001, China from 2003, Symrise, Dubai, and São Paulo. Each region expanded his palette—from tropical fruits in Southeast Asia to the woody, ambery, and musky vocabulary central to many Middle Eastern briefs—and in 2022 his contribution to contemporary perfumery was recognized with the Prix François Coty.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Paparella-Paris enjoys the moment when an abstract written formula becomes a physical fragrance with emotional force. Mango, pineapple, rose, woods, amber, and musk are handled as spatial elements rather than isolated effects. In *Rose Dunes*, the density of rose, saffron, and oud is opened by a current of desert light; throughout his work, richness is supported by proportion, lift, and movement rather than simple weight.
