About Kévin Mathys
Kévin Mathys is a Senior Perfumer at CPL Aromas, based in Dubai. He grew up in the French countryside, where childhood experiments blending colognes began a lasting fascination with scent. He sees fragrance as a prompt for emotion and memory, and values the possibility of becoming a small part of people’s lives through the compositions they choose to wear.
Career
After studying in Montpellier, he worked in flavour creation in the United Kingdom before training in perfumery at Bell Flavors & Fragrances in Leipzig. Mentorship from Sebastian Reuter and experience at other fragrance houses preceded his move to CPL Aromas. From Dubai, he now works on fine fragrances with a practice informed by both technical training and a continuing curiosity about materials.
Creative Style & Philosophy
He often begins a composition with an image, a name or a word. Materials with several facets, such as vetiver, leather, woods and amber, offer ways to build contrast and texture. Sketching, nature, swimming and hiking also feed his creative thinking. In his account, learning perfumery resembles learning a language: knowing materials is only part of understanding the history and culture that give a fragrance meaning.
