Patchouli of the Underworld
Patchouli meets pepper, leather and deeper resins in a darker composition interpreting Pluto’s underworld through earthy wood and softer animalic textures.

Patchouli of the Underworld imagines the darker depth of Pluto’s realm, where precious stones catch light beneath the earth. Created by Kévin Mathys and introduced in 2022, it forms a pair with Persephone’s Patchouli by another perfumer. Here, the subject takes an earthier, more animalic direction, with a texture the creator associates with a panther’s fur.
Cistus, black pepper, pink pepper and mandarin introduce patchouli, leather and carnation. Labdanum, styrax and castoreum create a warmer base. Mathys also identifies bergamot, cade and musk, and describes a suede accord built with mate absolute and birch. These details connect smoky wood and resin with a softer leathery texture.
Consider it for an evening with deeper woods and earthier patchouli, or when leather with warmer shading appeals. The 100mL bottle combines green glass with a rose-gold-coloured cap and shoulders. Interlacing lines surround its green medallion, carrying the eagle and fragrance name above the thick coloured glass base.
