About Jo Malone CBE
Jo Malone CBE is a British fragrance creator who began making scented products at home in London. She founded the house that still carries her name, Jo Malone London, and today leads her second company, Jo Loves, which she launched in 2011.
Career
She first worked as a facial therapist and began experimenting with scent while running a small skincare practice from her London home. The products she mixed by hand in her kitchen became so popular that she could not keep up with demand, and from those beginnings grew Jo Malone London, a brand with a devoted following worldwide. She sold the business to The Estée Lauder Companies in 1999 and stayed on as Creative Director until she left in 2006; in 2018 she was appointed CBE for her achievements as an entrepreneur.
Creative Style & Philosophy
Making products by hand in her skincare practice gave Malone an intuitive approach to fragrance. At Jo Loves, where she is founder and creative director, each scent, bath and body product, and candle starts from a memory or a moment in life she loves, often taking it in an unexpected direction. At Jo Loves she has also explored the way fragrance is applied, developing a scented paintbrush alongside more familiar formats.
Signature Works
- *Lime Basil & Mandarin* — a citrus-and-herb pairing from her years leading Jo Malone London, and the scent most closely tied to her name
- *Pomelo* — the first fragrance from Jo Loves, built around the bright, sharp citrus of pomelo
