About Hiram Green
Hiram Green is an independent perfume house founded by the Canadian perfumer of the same name, who composes and makes every fragrance from natural ingredients in his studio in the Dutch countryside near Amsterdam.
History
Green grew up in Toronto, where he studied fine arts, and then moved to London with plans to become an artist. A side job in a perfume store drew him into fragrance, and he went on to open his own perfume shop in the city while teaching himself to blend fragrant oils. After closing the shop and settling in the Netherlands, he released his first perfume in 2013, which marked the start of the brand.
Philosophy & Signature Style
Green is entirely self-taught. He believes that working outside the conventions taught at formal perfumery schools gives his compositions a more personal and distinctive character, which he describes as intense, opulent and expressive. Every formula is 100% natural and built on organic grain alcohol. No colouring is added, and the only animal-derived material is beeswax, which appears in a single scent. Each perfume is blended by hand in small batches and left to mature for at least three months before bottling. The bottles are glass, the caps are beechwood with a cork insert, and the boxes are unbleached recycled cardboard.
Iconic Fragrances
The debut, Moon Bloom, is a creamy tuberose, while Hyde, a smoky leather, won the Art & Olfaction Artisan award in 2019. Slowdive layers honey, tobacco and flowers, and it is the one composition that uses beeswax.
