About Commodity
Commodity is an American fragrance house that calls itself a modern perfumery, built on the belief that simplicity is the new luxury. Its scents are unisex and vegan, and the brand runs a flagship store in New York City.
History
Commodity came to life in 2013 through a Kickstarter campaign in the US that set out to rethink how fragrance is made and sold. Today the brand is led by Vicken Arslanian, its re-founder and creative director, who grew up in the perfume business and trained as an architect. He guides a creative team that revisits the making and presentation of fragrance.
Philosophy & Signature Style
The fragrances take short names drawn from materials and familiar objects, such as Milk, Gold, or Book, and the perfumers behind them are known as Makers. The main Scent Space collection offers three versions: Personal for close wear, Expressive for a balanced presence, and Bold for a fuller trail. Instead of simply stepping up in concentration, each version adjusts its ingredients so the wearer can decide how far the scent reaches.
Iconic Fragrances (or Did You Know?)
Milk is the house bestseller, while Gold, Donna Ramanauskas's warm gourmand of amber, sandalwood, and vanilla, is another signature. Milk Orchid grew out of Emma of Perfumerism's own dream version of Milk, a scent she had long championed, and was brought to life with perfumer Christelle Laprade. It sold out almost immediately as a 2025 limited edition and joined the permanent collection in 2026.
