Taiwanese Tea Perfume
The brand's first perfume, inspired by a Jin Xuan tea aroma cup, moving from Taiwan hinoki forest to milky tea and an ink finish.
Released in 2012, Taiwanese Tea Perfume was the brand's first fragrance. Its founder, PAN, had studied the world of tea as a tea master, and took the scent that lingers at the bottom of a Jin Xuan tea aroma cup as the starting point. The perfume was completed after a year and a half and more than 200 trials, and it pictures a small teahouse in a Taiwanese forest, where someone sips Jin Xuan tea, grinds an ink stick and writes calligraphy.
It opens with cedar, frankincense and Taiwan hinoki, a cool, faintly sweet woodiness that recalls a forest path after rain. Taiwan hinoki was deliberately placed in the top to lay the depth of an old-growth forest over a light tea. Spring-harvested Jin Xuan tea then comes forward, its soft, milk-like sweetness spreading warmly on the skin.
The final stage is named Ink. The earthy depth of spikenard and patchouli meets the sweetness of musk and tonka bean, moving into a quiet, composed finish that recalls freshly ground ink. The handmade triangular glass bottle sits on a triangular wooden base, each with its own wood grain.
