Giant sequoias photographed by Roger Steffens in 1973 are the starting point for Woody Mood. The trees are thought to be in Mendocino, California, where the photographer spent much of his time.

Bertrand Duchaufour, who has always worked through drawing, painting and photography, turned the immensity of those sequoias into a scent of strong, deep tones. It is meant to be approached the way a mysterious heroine approaches the forest, and that walk shapes the composition.

The threshold is bergamot and ginger, like a hypnotic light in a clearing. Beyond it, a sequoia accord, black tea, incense and a Jatamansi accord, the plant also known as Himalayan spikenard, build tall trees and a smoky stillness. At the close, styrax, a leather accord and patchouli meet the faint bitterness of a cocoa powder accord.
