Violet is the subject, yet Violet Shot turns the light on the leaf rather than the flower. At the centre, Egyptian violet leaf absolute shows the green leaf itself more than a sweet bloom. Around it gather the green of a cut grass accord and the bounce of Calabrian mandarin and Madagascar pink pepper, while saffron adds a leather-like shadow.

It belongs to Dominique Ropion's second Sepia trilogy, a floral triptych inspired by three photographs by Roberto Greco. Iris Shot takes the root, Rose Shot the petals and Violet Shot the leaf, each perfume answering for one part of the plant. Greco is also a horticulturist. Photographs by someone who knows plants have become perfumes that separate a plant into its parts.

In the foundation, Indonesian patchouli gives texture and shape to the deep sweetness of Spanish labdanum and Madagascar vanilla bean. From the green leaf it settles into something elegant and woody.
