Leather Shot starts from a single photograph of dark brown sand, its grain suggesting leather. That mark on the surface of earth and water is likened to a small stream merging with the ocean on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island, and the fragrance follows it: deep-seated, yet subtle.
Bertrand Duchaufour renders that texture as a woody, smoky, spicy leather. Cardamom and cumin, edged with the bitterness of bigarade orange, give the opening a granular, sandy feel. Iris keeps the leather from turning coarse, its powdery elegance smoothing the surface.
Cedarwood and a driftwood accord sit underneath. The image of timber worn by water ties the leather back to the shoreline in the photograph.
