Close Up
Annick Menardo's scent born from Suren Manvelyan's close-up of an iris, contrasting green coffee and cherry with white tobacco and amber.
Perfumer: Annick Menardo
Is it an eye wide open, or a miniature world with its own lands and oceans? The iris photographed close up by Suren Manvelyan reads like a world map that wavers between eyeball and planetary globe. The image is so close that you could almost touch it, even smell it, and Annick Menardo composed Close Up to grant that wish.
The fragrance is intense and contrasting, joining amber tones with a sense of freshness, and its full-bodied character blends smoothly with anise and green coffee. The green, unroasted tone of Santos green coffee meets the tart fruit of a griotte cherry accord and fresh spices. At the centre, a white tobacco accord, patchouli, Atlas cedarwood and centifolia rose gather leaf, earth, wood and petal into a single picture, which ambery notes and tonka bean set on warm ground.
The idea that every material grows stronger and sharper the closer you look translates the photographic close-up directly into scent.
