SHODO
Inspired by calligraphy and a trace of ink, aromatic herbs, woods and resins meet through bright elemi, dry hay and deeper vetiver.
SHODO imagines a room where warm wood and minimal design face a dry landscape garden. The quiet time of calligraphy and a faint impression of ink provide its starting point. Petitgrain, Manila elemi and chamomile combine green herbal character with a fresher resinous impression. Lavender, cedarwood and hay follow, adding a dry texture that can recall straw and tatami. Sandalwood, vetiver and frankincense then bring warmth and an earth-like depth. Through these woods, herbs and resins, the composition explores both drier surfaces and a sense of moisture within its Japanese interior setting, giving the image more than one texture to follow.
