Isola
Sicily and Japan, revisited in the summer of 2023, joined through lemon and yuzu — a bright, fizzy citrus built like lemonade in the shade or a can of yuzu soda.
Perfumer: Giuseppe Imprezzabile
Isola comes from the summer of 2023, when its creator returned to Sicily and to Japan after a long absence. On one side, the sun-struck streets of Mazara del Vallo, the creator's hometown; on the other, the shade of quiet Japanese gardens. Lemon and yuzu stand for these two distant places.
At its center is a fresh lemonade drunk in the shade on a scorching day, or a can of yuzu soda on an Osaka street, bright and fizzy with tartness. Neroli softens the tart citrus, while cassis and white tea add a touch of dark fruit and astringency.
The challenge was to sustain the brightness of summer through the composition. The name is Italian for island: a state of mind in which water surrounds everything and keeps you apart, yet sheltered. It was conceived while listening to albums by Franco Battiato and Kikagaku Moyo.
